Okaaaay... So I'm a big fan of the UK sci-fi show Doctor Who. When I was young I was only allowed to watch PBS and I remember in the early evening, they'd show this weird show with a time-traveling English dude with funny hair and a long scarf. I watched it religiously. The theme music... oh, the theme music! It still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand at full attention.
There have been ten actors to play The Doctor since the 1960's. The eleventh Doctor has just been revealed by the BBC - 26 year-old Matt Smith. First off, he's rather young. I'm not really sure what I think about it. I loved the reboot of this series. The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) was modern, exciting, brooding and a nice change from the silliness that seemed to destroy the "classic" series in the 1980's. The Tenth Doctor (David Tennent) was my wife's favorite (and also her first). I have a theory that we live our first Doctor the most (mine was the Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker) and that we compare all past and future Doctors to the one we loved first.
So anyway, this new guy, Matt Smith... he's young. Has a generic name. But he has a distinct look and that could be interesting. Another thing to mention here is that long-time show-running, Russel Davies left the show after the last season and that new blood will be taking it over. I'm expecting a darker, more adult spin on things... we'll have to wait and see. But until then, I'll just have to wait and see how this new guy turns out.
