Announcing the 2012 Tournament of Books Contest

I have been an avid follower of The Morning News' Tournament of Books for a few years.  I eagerly await the unveiling of the Short List and then I drool in anticipation of the actual start of the tournament.  The brackets are filled in with care and I sometimes have two or three alternate brackets, just to work out a few what-if scenarios.  The ToB is my Christmas.

The very best part about the Tournament of Books is the great discussions that go on all over the internet.  These are all, for the most part, great books and I'm always in favor of talking about great books.  I will be blogging the heck out of this year's tournament and I thought it would be fun and interesting to put together a contest.  Winner will receive any one of the sixteen books included in the Tournament of Books or any previous winner of the Tournament of Books (US only!  Sorry!).

Here's how it works:  before the beginning of each round (there are five rounds) I will make a post requesting your picks for the current round.  Make your picks in the comments of the post.  For each winning pick you will receive one point.  The person with highest number of points at the end of the tournament will win the prize.

Additional ways to earn points:

+1 for liking Forever Overhead on Facebook
+1 for following Forever Overhead (@4everoverhead) on Twitter
+5 for picking the overall ToB winner in the first round
+3 for picking the overall ToB winner in the second round
+2 for picking the overall ToB winner in the third round

There is no prize for second or third place.  Winner takes all.  Whoomp there it is.

So go ahead and study up - the bracket is here.

I'll be collecting your first round picks on Monday, March 5th.

Powells.com is a sponsor of the Tournament of Books and you would be doing them (and me) a big favor if you used this link to buy any of the books in this year's tournament.  All ToB books are 30% off their list price and you'll be supporting a great bookseller!
